FarCry 2 – Thumbs up from me

This month PlayStation Plus subscribers got FarCry 2 free, and also this month the trailer which has been leaked three times before was also released for FarCry 3. I’m not sure if this was ploys in order for people to get a taste of FarCry 2 see the trailer and think I’m getting FarCry 3, but that’s what it looks like to me. I have had FarCry on PC and Far Cry 2 on 360 and PS3. The game is a little repetitive but I love it, running through a jungle and then across a desert and getting chased by Jeeps its great fun. The game itself doesn’t have the greatest GFX but there still good, there is a huge community of players who made maps which are available to play in multiplayer and after giving the map maker a quick go for 30 Minutes on the weekend I can honestly say its not for the faint hearted, I got nowhere in the time I tried.

This all said until it was free to PS+ users I never tried the Multiplayer game. Over the last weekend I had a chance to try the multiplayer game with the help of my fellow OAP and PS Friends.

Ranked games are almost impossible to join with your friends as you can’t send invites to ranked matches. The only way I found to get around it is to make a ranked game on the mode you want with a specific map, set the players need to 16 and then message all your friends you want to play with to search for the map. After they join change the map rotation and lower the players to however many there is in the game and hey presto you and your friends are in a ranked game. I had two games with a friend and it kept disconnecting us both so we would have to do it all again.

Multiplayer is great fun on this game as you rank up you level up your weapons using blood diamonds, not a bad feature. The only thing I found to be a problem is healing you can heal yourself which is great but no matter how damaged you are it always takes the same amount of time to heal yourself. Ammo doesn’t last too long and when the game gets full there is slight lag which depending on the map size depends on how bad it is. Sneaking up behind an enemy and hacking him to death with my machete and all of a sudden he’s behind me shooting me. Also there does seem to be level matching in the game I’m not sure if it was just due to PS+ players just starting but we were evenly matched until the few level 13 players started to join.

The maximum players for Multiplayer is 16 and the four game modes are Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, Capture the Diamond (Capture the flag), and Uprising. Uprising mode  has captains that have to capture points on the map and the other team has to try and kill him after capturing all the points to win.

It has six classes. The Commando who has an assault rifle, the Sharpshooter who has a sniper rifles, the Guerrilla who has shotguns, the Rebel who has flamethrowers and rocket launchers, the Gunner has light machine guns and rocket launchers, and the Saboteur has silenced weapons . Each class can choose a primary weapon and a side arm, as well as explosives such as frag grenades or Molotov cocktails. You can unlock new weapons by using upto three blood diamonds on each class. You earn the diamonds by gaining experience points from killing other players and completing objectives. Using the same weapons over and over upgrade the weapons within a class include operation manuals, maintenance manuals, and bandoliers. You are awards points for killing enemy players, reviving you teammates, capturing control points, and capturing diamonds.

Snipeing on large maps is very hard unless you have had a lot of practice, I was shooting some players 3-4 times and then getting sniped myself. Other times I was getting a headshot instant kill (not too often though)

I use the Saboteur class most of the time as the silenced weapons are great when you want to be stealthy and sneak up on your enemies.

I have had FarCry 3 on preorder for months now and can’t wait for it to be released.

7 Day Skyrim Break

I gave myself a break from my usual OD on Skyrim, there have been a few good demos on PSN and XBL lately, so i jumped on and tried a few out. I have a few mates who phone from time to time to play MW3 which I have for the 360 so I played that a couple of days.

Then I spent a day sorting my PS3 HDD its 250gb and was full, I removed all my old game data for most of the games I no longer own or have finished. My free space went from 15gb – 145gb I could have removed a lot more but as it was late at night by the time I had finished so I decided to get my ass to bed.

I then looked at my V+ box and thought I had better get some of my recorded shows watched to free some space. This lead to almost a week without me playing a game, I then played Uncharted 3 with some of my fellow OAP’s and Chums on the Tuesday.

Due to PS+ users getting Far Cry 2 for free I spent Friday, Saturday and Sunday playing that. Not a bad game although I found a few hiccups I will be blogging about these later in the week.

Well last night I put Skyrim back on and couldn’t get back into it, it felt slow, I know it’s a slow game, jebus I have played it for 150 hours. I died a few times and spent the rest of the night re fighting a dragon which wouldn’t die, then in a fit of rage turned it off. I thought to myself your tired, wait till tomorrow and try again, I turned my PS3 on this morning and played again for an hour which turned into two as it always does with Skyrim, and I felt the same I’m not sure if I’m just pissed off at it due to the glitched quests I cant complete or if that’s it and the game has lost its initial appeal.

Only time will tell.

PlayStation 3 Web Browser

PlayStation update 4.10 made a quick change to the service agreement which basically changed the name from PlayStation Network to Sony Entertainment Network. But the update also updated the web browser which increased speed and added more flash support, I sometimes use sites to stream US shows which are unavailable in the UK and normally did this on my laptop. I tested this on the PS3 a while back and had no joy, so I thought I would try it again after the update and the site works. YouTube seems to also run better although video quality isn’t great, lots of other sites also work now and didn’t work or did but not very well.

I haven’t had a chance to do a full test of the browser yet, but from what I have tested this I a great update no other console has a browser and making the PS3 better can only make it stronger on the market.

Let’s hope a YouTube app will come next 😉

Skyrim – One Hundredth Hour

Skyrim Logo

Well maybe I was a bit too excited about not getting any glitches in the first 60 hours but today after hitting one hundred hours of playing has shown me that glitches are inevitable. Luckily for me the 1.4 patch is due out today on 360 and PS3 and my three glitched quests should be finish by the end of tonight. Well in the last 40 hours I have been doing main quests and random thieves guild and champions jobs, these seem to keep me entertained enough in between the main quests.

There has still not been any down points to this game except the fact I collect every weapon while I’m in a dungeons, caves or towers and then become over cumbersome. There is a reason for this I have discovered that leaving items on a person’s body will keep the body where it dies and going back to a few places more then once I have discovered bodies still there. After removing all items from the bodies and going back the bodies have disappeared. Doing this, I can only assume will help the PS3 users, as lag seems to be a problem, although I have only ever had a problem when jumping to a busy city.

I remember in Oblivion on my 360 having a grand mansion with enough room for all my special armours and weapons this seems to have been spread out between the five main houses you can get on Skyrim and makes people like me with what I can only think is bad OCD fill a single house with all my items.

Anyway my main armour has changed from my Deadric to the Nightingale although I still use all Deadric weapons. I have also been using a lot of magic, summoning Storm atronach while running between places and healing with magic rather then potions. I find doing this is a good way to increase your Magic skills, I’m trying to get my magic skills up to increase the power of my attacks although I don’t use magic much during battles.

I can’t really go into much depth on what I have been doing as it would leave my post full of spoilers.
