GTA V Online – Racism and Kids

While play GTA V Online yesterday I heard a small child in my ear, he must have been no older then 10 and was screaming Nigger among other profanities. I couldn’t believe it when I heard a woman’s voice in the background telling him his dinner was ready and he was still swearing like a drunk Geordie on a night out. This wasn’t the only person I could hear but they all kept using the same profanities.

As a thirty year old gamer who has played games for most of my life I DO tend to use bad language but I don’t recall using the word Nigger while cussing online. I see the word as being the most racist word in the world. But I also believe that everyone should stop using it, you mostly hear it from the street kids these days trying to be like rappers not understanding that the groups like the NWA were still fighting against racism rather then the current minority of racists. I can see racism being gone in the not so distant future just like homophobia, people are growing to just not care about people’s religion, skin colour or sexual orientation.

I just can’t grasp why a parent would buy there child a 18 rated game to play, I play the games so I know what to expect, I feel they think games are not as realistic as they are and there’s always the same comment I also hear from my younger family members “my mate has it”. To me that is not a reason to buy a 18 rated game for anyone under the required age.

I’m not using GTA V as a reason for the kids using bad language I’m using it as a reference for why young kids are using that kind of language. It’s the parents who buy the 18 rated games for people under 18 that’s the issue. You see on most online articles, a 18 rated game¬† made a 12 year old do something, when in all reasoning it’s the fact a young child who’s mind is still developing thinks things from the game are normal everyday occurrences rather then a work of fiction. The parents are to blame using video games as baby sitters to make life easier. Maybe if the parents got held responsible for the child’s actions they would maybe stop buying them games over there age range and start communicating more.

Yet another upgrade

It’s been a few months since I decided to upgrade my PC, I have now upgraded my motherboard, ram and GPU. Unfortunately I didn’t have the cables required on my PSU so I had to upgrade that too.

New Parts

Motherboard: Asrock H77 Pro 4 MVP £80
GPU: Gigabyte GTX 960 Windforce 2x OC £190
RAM: Corsair Vengeance 1600mhz 16gb £100
PSU: Corsair CX750 £80

With the above I can now game with most games on ultra settings without any issues and an average 70fps.

The majority of games that run lower are still between 30 and 60 FPS which is acceptable in my opinion.

Let’s hope this current setup will last for at least 8 months, next upgrade will be Hdd – SSD.

More PC Upgrades

According to the majority of PC gamers, PC Gaming is the Master Race, console gamers are peasants, and it’s cheaper in the long run for a PC over Console. I must have missed something, I am a multiplatform gamer so here is what I see, in January 2013 I spent a little over ¬£300 for a cheap gaming rig, 14 months later (march 2014) I spent another ¬£550 on a CPU, cooler, fans and Case taking my total well over ¬£1000. For a mediocre gaming rig it’s not that bad. My new issue is I now need another upgrade consisting of a new Motherboard, RAM, PSU and GPU which will cost another ¬£470. Total of ¬£1500 in just over 2 years.

Now looking back I had a PS3 for most of its generation life 5-6 years so far and it’s still going strong. The PS3 cost ¬£350 and that’s lasted all them years. I got a PS4 on release which cost ¬£500 with a few games the shelf life of consoles is 5 years plus yet the shelf life of most PC’s depending on budget is on average 2 years.

The big picture is a console gamer has parity as all consoles are identical, non has a performance boost over the next. The only downside is Internet connection but this is the same issue as PC. There is no parity with PC the differences are numerous from as little as a different motherboard chipset all the way up to a CPU or GPU overclock with water cooling.

I can’t only get at the hardware cost of PC in reality the games will always run better on PC and will also look stunning, well if you spend enough on hardware. As consoles have set hardware it’s up to the game development teams to utilise what it has and as we saw last generation with Uncharted and The Last Of Us late generation they have the games looking great even with low spec hardware.

So I have order my new Motherboard which is a socket 1155 with a H77 chipset for ¬£75. Next payday I’ll be getting my memory 16gb Kingston Hyperx 1600mhz. The following payday a Nvidia GTX 960, if needed I’ll also be getting my PSU probably a Corsair 750w Modular. If the PSU is not needed I’ll be saving that for the month after but I have a feeling I will need it.

PC Build Finished

Ok i cancelled my order with the original company and went with ordered around 3pm Friday 18th January and received Monday 21st January. I decided to put it together on Tuesday 22nd of January and a PC was born an hour later. I had a few issues with the Power button and reset switch cables as they just reached where they had to go. I was on for almost 4 hours just doing all the updates for Windows 7 as my disk was a release version.

Anyway i can say for a low spec PC its great for gaming and for general use just what i wanted. I spent most of Friday and Saturday downloading games and messing around with all my apps from my old PC.

Yesterday i spent the day with my son and the night in Chernarus (DayZ) i will be blogging about it tonight and have it up tomorrow ūüôā

My PC Build So Far… Erm

Last week I made a phone call to and I was informed they don’t charge for the goods you order until despatch. Great I thought until I looked at my credit card bill after I ordered and realised a charge for ¬£330. Well that was only today so let’s talk about there customer service from the day I ordered. First I get 3 emails one confirming my order, a second confirming the authorisation of my credit card, then a third telling me two items were out of stock the third received several hours after my order. The day after (Saturday) I looked at the site and one of the two items I had been told was out of stock was actually in Stock :-\ I sent a query via there Web page and received a reply saying that only one of the items currently wasn’t in Stock but was due the 15th. Well late on the 15th (17:00) I called as the web page showed there still wasn’t stock and enquired about whether it was in or not, it wasn’t. The guy I spoke to sounded genuine and told me due to the weather there supplier couldn’t make their delivery. But they had been told it would be with them the following day. So as usual I checked again on the 16th and the site still showed there wasn’t any stock. I thought it probably will be in later that day and so I left it at that. I decided later in the day to tweet them about when the stock would be due in see below.

Well I checked all today and still no stock, I only used them as the price was ¬£15 less then anywhere else before the others added there delivery charge. I decided to look at some reviews on the Internet and although the good outweigh the bad I’m now in two minds whether or not to cancel the order and get it from elsewhere. One review said a person had to wait 3 months for a refund of a DOA item. Another said there customer services lied to them constantly and I’m starting to feel I may be getting the same lax customer service as them. I was hoping to get back on Minecraft and start on DayZ this weekend but looks like it’s more like next weekend now ūüė¶

My New PC Build

With my old laptop (nicknamed craptop) seeing better days and after watching a great video by Jackfrags I decided it was time to leave laptops behind and finally get A full size PC again. Rather then just surfing the web checking emails and the occasional download this time i have decided to tryout some PC gaming.

The spec I went for is:
Intel Pentium Dual Core G860 3.0Ghz (Socket 1155)
1GB XFX Radeon HD 7770
500GB Sea gate HDD
8GB Corsair DDR3 Ram

This is not predominately for gaming so it’s not the best of the best but should do for a part time PC gamer. It’s only cost me around ¬£300 for the base including a mouse and keyboard. The spec is as you will see from Jackfrags video with a couple of minor tweaks just for availability.

This is the start of what could be a long PC gaming career which will mean a lot of upgrading over the next year or two. Mainly the graphics card then the CPU and Ram.

The main games I’m probably gonna be playing are:
Team Fortress 2
Counterstrike: GO
Battlefield Heroes

If your interested in building your own cheap gaming rig check out Jackfrags YouTube video below.

My Virginmedia TiVo

After a long and painful phone call to India and the disappointing fact that if I change me services it would cost me more for less. I decided to call back for a second opinion and saved myself some cash got a free TiVo box kept my V+ box. Not sure why Virginmedia outsource there call centres, the UK based do a perfect job and the one in India seems to be unable to help with anything.

Virgin has brought out a new group of bundles called the collection,¬†I¬†downgraded my internet to save a little cash but got a TiVo box and multi-room for free. I had to wait 2 weeks for an install but around 30 mins after the engineer arrived i was up and running. Its been a week and I’m not sure how I lived without TiVo before, its¬†recommendations¬†are unreal and I’m now watching more shows then ever, even shows I never thought about watching before. Just a few clicks of the thumbs up or thumbs down and it starts¬†recommending, I’m still new to TiVo and its not difficult to use but i do make the odd mistake. It has laods of apps, i have only used ¬†Spotify and YouTube apps but they are better then my laptop at¬†handling¬†most of this stuff.

If your a Virgin customer i would highly recommend you phone to see about getting an upgrade or joining a new collection. You wont be disappointed.
